Fijian-Indian Wedding on Rocklea's Soccer Field

Ayesha & Rahil

Soccer Field and saris. Honestly, I was getting 'Bend It Like Beckem" Vibes. These two Aussie-born Fijian-Indians wanted to honour their culture in having a traditional, Hindi wedding. Rahil and Ayesha both love soccer and were looking for an outdoor space to host their wedding... so, why not a soccer field. They hired a huge team to repurpose and decorate the field. With over 300 guests in attendance, they had their work cut out. During the three hour ceremony, guests were able to help themselves to an assortment of Indian sweets and refreshments. This provided excellent relief from the sun, that was harsher than usual for a September wedding.

At the end of the ceremony, Ayesha and Rahil were joyful but quite exhausted after six full days of wedding festivities. Just as they finished taking the final group photos and walked down the red carpet to exit, the sun was at magic hour. The light was so stunning that I couldn't bare to miss the opportunity, even though it wasn't scheduled in. I asked if we could take a few couple's photos with the sun as a backlight. They were happy to oblige. It was spontaneous and short, yet ended up being some of my favourite photos from the day.
